How to pick a Self Storage Facility

A storage facility can be a great way to store your extra stuff and get it out of your basement or garage. If you are going to put your stuff into storage you are going to want to make sure that you know what to look for when you are choosing a self storage facility.

Certainly you want to make sure that the stuff that you have in your facility is going to be safe so you will want to check what kind of security system they have. Ideally there should be a guard on duty twenty four hours a day, it goes without saying there should be an alarm system. You will get better protection if you keep your items in an inside unit but this will cost you more than an exterior unit.

The other big thing that you are going to want to make sure of is that you can access your locker when you need to. It is possible to Find Self Storage Units that allow you to access your unit twenty four hours a day but these are not all that common. In general you don't need a facility that allows twenty four access unless you normally use the items in your locker at night. The main thing is to make sure that the hours the facility is open will fit your schedule.

When you are choosing a storage facility you are going to want to make sure that you find one that has lockers that are the right size for your needs. Most facilities have a variety of locker sizes but certain sizes tend to get rented out fairly quickly. That means that you may have to look around a little bit to find a facility that has a locker that is the right size. It should be obvious why you need to make sure that the locker that you choose is large enough for all of your stuff. On the other hand you don't want a locker that is bigger than you need since this is just wasting money.

The last thing that you are going to have to think about when you are choosing a storage facility is whether or not it is climate controlled. This will cost you more money and it is certainly not always necessary. However if you are going to be storing things that are sensitive to heat or cold like some furniture, works of art or documents you have to make sure that the locker is climate controlled. A climate controlled locker also makes getting your stuff into and out of the locker much less of an ordeal. You will have to decide if you need a climate controlled facility or not.
